"Wow. We did it! The Girls Count Act was just signed into law!
The Girls Count Act will help ensure children in developing countries are registered at birth. This is especially critical when 4 out of 10 children are not registered at birth.
Today – together – we put an end to this.
This is a huge win for the countless girls – and boys – around the world that this bill will help support. And importantly, this is a huge win for you. Thousands of you wrote letters, called and met with your members of Congress; you signed petitions, posted on social media and held advocacy events. Your efforts brought us to this moment.
You took action – and the U.S. government listened! In passing this bill, President Obama and Congress have made girls in developing countries a foreign policy priority."
